Friends at The Judges Lodgings
My favourite images & why…?
Part of my role as a documentary wedding photographer is to understand light, composition and of course the moment. Wedding photographers shooting in a Reportage style, shouldn’t just ‘spray & pray’ ie, just taking as many pictures as possible and hoping for some ‘good ones’ without any consideration of the elements mentioned earlier.
In this image, I found myself in a tricky situation as the room at The Judges Lodgings in Lincoln was quite dark, with light only coming from the windows to my right – so, in order to make any photographs, without the introduction of flash (which I never would), I had to think about the light direction and position myself accordingly.
If you have been to my website before, you will have noticed that I shoot a lot of black and white wedding photography and I do believe that often, when the light is such a dominant element of the image, it generally looks better as a monochrome picture.
I really love this picture, it’s a simple picture, but one I love because of the lighting… not only because of the natural light but the facial expression of the chap makes you wonder what was said to react in such a way.
I hope you like it too…
